A writing lesson and more importantly – Pet montage

August 1, 2010 by Nicole 14 Comments

It’s raining here in Wainui at the moment.  We’ve just had lunch and I’m avoiding working on my re-write.  Just writing that made me realise something.  I’m never not working on my current story.  It’s always there, singing away in the crevices of my mind.
Names haunt me.  Darting forwards teasingly then off again when I try to understand what triggered the sudden thought.
Loushka, Alek, Gredel, Phroma.  Cat, Kassie, Loi & Audrey.  Sian, Daron, Sabyn and Rumal.
While I sit here watching True Blood and pretending to not think about BirthRight, I suddenly realise that Alceide might look like Alek.  Without meaning to I begin to dissect the differences between them.  I open another page to google who the actor is because as with any Author I desperately want these characters to be real.  This is my dream world I’m creating.  It’s fantastical and terrifying with limits set only by your mind.  It makes my heart race and I realise I haven’t even registered the last 20mins of True Blood… what the heck is Sookie wearing??
*sigh*  It’s a very good thing we got rid of the cable *grin* what a waste of money it’d be with me!  So never feel bad when you have a ‘break’ from writing because I’ll guarantee that you’re still working on it!
I didn’t mention our minor drama yesterday.  Otis our blonde dog (I’d call him tan but he really is a blonde *grin* no offense to any blondes out there ; p) got excited when our neighbour started playing with his bull mastiff puppy.  Who is huge and gorgeous and one of the sweetest pups ever!  Anyway Oty tried jumping the fence and as usual came off second best.  This is a HIGH fence by the way *sigh*.  He split his nail to the quick and was bleeding everywhere.  So we bandaged him up but didn’t panic too much.  Till about an hour before we were meant to leave for dinner and we realised it was STILL bleeding.  Oh crap.  And an emergency call to the vet then Glenn dashed over the hill with him while I crossed my fingers that
A.  Oty would be fine and B. Glenn would get to dinner on time *grin*
It all worked out okay (and about $80.00 later..) and now Oty is playing the ‘poor me I’m an invalid’ card with his giant bandage.  He’s gonna have a hissyfit tomorrow when he realises he isn’t allowed to go walking for a few days .  So here’s some cute pic’s of the ‘dying’ doggy and his sisters Sable (dog) and Griffin (cat).

That is quite a pet zone you have there. SAME EXACT thing happened to my dog today. Two toenails torn trying to jump our fence. Blood All over the floor. He too, will not be happy to learn about his new confines of house arrest.

MY dog, Jedi, can be such a baby sometimes! He's definitely got the pouty dog face down for occasions such as this.

Sounds like you are a true writer at heart!

sorry to hear about the puppy. hurts to see a loved one in pain….

About walking around with a glazed look, welcome to the club. Maybe train one of your dogs to be like a seeing-eye dog to keep you from bumping into things. That may work. Also, best to stay away from behind the wheel. Operating a motor vehicle while the right lobe is in overdrive, not a good idea for the community you live in.

Poor pup! But that face is adorable…too sweet! I know what you mean about the current story (and maybe the next one, too) following you around everywhere. Can't escape it, so may as well embrace it 🙂

bahaha the look on his gorgeous little face has just made my day! poor little invalid puppy! very gorgeous pets 🙂

im a shocker for 'working on' my wip too, its true i do think about it a far bit but seriously haven't written a word in at least three weeks. its getting rather pathetic now to say i have a 'work in progress'. a) im clearly NOT working on it B) progress? I'm unfamiliar with the word

Wow, that's really something that you can tune out something you've never seen before (True Blood no less!) because of the novel call. My novel and characters will call (thankfully) in waiting rooms at the doctor's office or (not so thankfully) at my OWN office while I'm trying to work… but I've never been really distracted by it during a good show 🙂

    Cute dogs!

And don't worry, you're not the only one obsessed with characters from your novels. My every waking moment is haunted by Egyptians dead for 3,500 years.
