Ten awesome quotes

August 3, 2010 by Nicole 9 Comments

After my lesson yesterday I had fun reading quotes by authors I admire.  There are so many good ones!  In light of that here are the ten I choose for this month.  I’ll do this monthly because I believe these sorts of quotes are like balm for the weary/down trodden or uninspired writers amongst us.  Lets face it, we’ve all been there at least once!  So have a read, let me know your fav and I hope this helps to brighten your day.
  1. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit. – Aristotle
  2. Books aren’t written – they’re rewritten. Including your own. It is one of the hardest things to accept, especially after the seventh rewrite hasn’t quite done it. – Michael Crichton
  3. Evil is just a point of view – Anne Rice
  4. All outward forms of religion are almost useless, and are the causes of endless strife. . . . Believe there is a great power silently working all things for good, behave yourself and never mind the rest. – Beatrix Potter
  5. Writing an informative yet compact thriller is a lot like making maple sugar candy. You have to tap hundreds of trees – boil vats and vats of raw sap – evaporate the water – and keep boiling until you’ve distilled a tiny nugget that encapsulates the essence. – Dan Brown
  6. In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you. – Deepak Chopra
  7. A people’s literature is the great textbook for real knowledge of them. The writings of the day show the quality of the people as no historical reconstruction can. – Edith Hamilton
  8. If enough people think of a thing and work hard enough at it, I guess it’s pretty nearly bound to happen, wind and weather permitting. – Laura Ingalls Wilder
  9. Belief in oneself is one of the most important bricks in building any successful venture. – Lydia M Child
  10. I don’t believe in the kind of magic in my books. But I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book. – J K Rowling

What a cool list! It is the kind of thing where you have to come back later and reread. Depending upon where you are at any given moment, shapes the way the quotes touch you. Thanks.

Hey, Nicole! I LOVE these quotes! They are awesome and I'm thinking about using some of them for my Mental Snack days.
