Update on Otis

November 6, 2010 by Nicole 10 Comments

We have our boy back from Massey and all is well!
Turns out it was an abscess from a tooth like our vet had originally hoped but it was so deep it wasn’t recognisable on the x-ray.  The CT scan however revealed all.  A very deep abscess possibly resulting from two root infections and the infection actually ate its way through his skull *ewww* which is how the poison was released into his sinus making the lump on his face.  I felt rather faint when the vet told us that because it sounds so awful but the tooth has been pulled (and his teeth polished!) and now he’s on monster antibiotic’s for a couple of weeks but otherwise good.  YAY!  So unfortunately that little adventure has set us back about $1400…. Apparently our insurance will cover 60% but they can’t pay out till the invoices are all finalised which is taking a while.  But that’s okay – all’s well that ends well.  Below is a pic of Otis’s CT scan and the arrow is pointing at the gap in the skull ;p
Thank you all very much for your kind thoughts and comments!  Hope everyone has a great weekend and I’ll be back next week to give an update on the ‘big reveal’ status, take care : )

So glad all is well with Otis. I'm amazed that you have insurance to cover any of the bill. Our English Shepherd was kicked last year by one of our horses. Didn't break anything but pulled skin lose and he had to have surgery. It was a bit over $1,000 (all out of pocket). But you do what you have to do for the lovely little four-legged creatures that tug at our heart.

    Great news!!! poor Otis!
It's been a pet illness week for my friends this week…

i read a horrible thing this morning, i didn't know that cats were BADLY allergic to caffeine. A Blog acquaintance left a 1/2 drunk cup of Irish cream coffee in the lounge overnight and her little pussy cat drunk it and sadly passed away!!

    very sad.

anyway i'm cooking dinner so best be off… beef stroganof with my secret ingredients Rosemary and BRANDY…lol
