Inspiration to join Search & Rescue

February 23, 2011 by Nicole 11 Comments

Hell it only took two major earthquakes.  I am a little ashamed it’s taken this long but I’ve taken the first step along with hundreds of other Kiwi’s.  Which means the waiting list might be long and I may not even be required… but I hope I am and I’m hoping all those years of going bush and running with the dogs’ means I might be slightly higher in experience than others.  Not that it’s a race but if you hadn’t noticed by now I’m a person who likes to do things.  My dad was often involved in Search & Rescue and I really should have done this earlier.. better late than never I guess.  We’ve already donated to the Red Cross and the SPCA but with all these reports coming through it just makes you itch to do more.  A friend of ours is in Kapiti at the moment waiting for deployment to Christchurch and I have to confess when he texted me that, that I had a moment of pure envy, it’s crazy how much everyone just wants to HELP.  Sitting in the other island watching the news reports feels downright useless at the moment.  Even more frustrating is that I took three days leave this week so am at home today, tomorrow and Friday.  It was my intention to finish my draft and I gave myself a kinda insane goal of 50 pages a day.. so far I’ve managed 10 *sigh*.. it’s very hard to keep away from the news sites and facebook etc.
Again my thoughts are with you Christchurch!! Take care and be safe everyone and thanks SO MUCH to all the lovely thoughts and comments from all you fellow bloggers.  Every single one is appreciated.
And again if you have a spare dollar hit the donate button at the top left – cause every dollar counts!

it's gobsmacking.. just joined a bake-off event. Someone desperate to help has organised a reduced rate ferry crossing and a free hire car and is driving down with all the baked goods – the groups already attracted 45 people and not been up for long. I'll be baking a double batch of anzacs – I know my Granddad lived off them for a week once (fyi he's got dementia.. guess it seemed like a good idea at the time..)

You're amazing! I've also donated to help the effort (not here but another site) and I hope they get their lives back to normal soon.

I feel so helpless! I've donated to the SPCA on another kitty blogger's site but it's nothing compared to you and all you volunteers at ground level!! I pray that no more lives are lost! Take care

    Hey Nicole,

My heart really goes out to all of those displaced by the quake. I think losing your home would be one of the biggest tragedies next to losing a life.

Really awesome of everyone trying to help in the creative ways I've seen. In times like these, every little thing will make a difference.

Thanks Clarissa & Old Kitty!! As I said every dollar counts so thank you SO MUCH!

Hi E.J it is heartbreaking especially as so many of them had just been given the all clear to go back to their houses damaged by the september quake

Oh, I'm so glad you're ok. I don't know why I didn't think to stop by yesterday except I was so tired all day. Tomorrow is payday. I'll come back by then if you take debit cards. I don't have a paypal account.

    Hi N.R 🙂

Debit cards are fine, that's what I use – and I use mine thru a paypal acc to be extra safe *grin* Thanks so much!! Ooh and about a third through your book right now 🙂

My thoughts are with you and everyone over there. I am so sorry that there is so much going on over there and grateful that there are so many wonderful people like you willing to help and come to the aid of others.
