Does looking in the mirror surprise you?

No, this
isn’t about vanity ;p more about how you see yourself in your head. Maybe it’s
just me, I don’t know, but while I’m plotting and pondering new ideas I often
catch myself double looking in the mirror, surprised to see myself because I
expect to see the current character I’m working on. I know that sounds a bit
crazy, but I’ve always been one to intensely fantasize about characters (no,
not in any dodgy way ;p you dirty minded lot!) and really ‘get in their head’.
It leaves me feeling oddly out of touch with my own skin. Kind of like when you
watch a movie and really get involved with the plot to the point that when you
walk out the cinema you just expect to see the characters there, it feels like
you’re in that world. Sometimes I really do feel like there are dozens of
personalities living inside my head, clambering for a chance to ride in the
front seat and direct…
Does anyone
else get this? Or am I living up to the ‘all writers are a special type of
insane’ line ;p
Take care all!

You are crazy. But no more than the rest of us.ha

Looking in the mirror doesn't surprise me but I have a tendency to sound more and more like my characters the deeper I get into a story. This can be a problem. My boss doesn't like being called 'dude' or 'crusty old peep'.

I think it's a bit of both. That line is SO true, but I know what you mean! I don't get out of touch with my own skin, because I imagine everything in first person. I can describe a character, but I can't visualise them. I can imagine what they will do, the way they move, the things they will say, and the way another character will react, but I can't see their face, or how tall they are, or what colour their eyes were, or their skin, or their hair….So yes and no. For me, it's more like I'm surprised that everyone else doesn't act like my characters, or that I can't control the people around me. But I've always gotten into books, so being someone else is normal for me 😛

I have yet to have that happen to me, but I wouldn't rule you crazy yet… well, crazier than any of us other writers. 😉
