Being the odd one out

February 25, 2015 by Nicole Leave a Comment

I read about the wee six year old Glenn
(name spelt the same as my Glenn, so I like him already) who had all the
invitees to his birthday pull a no-show. The parents of those invitees didn’t
even have the decency to RSVP an excuse! The majority of comments on the
articles about this show disgust and disappointment at such thoughtless
actions. But there are a number of commentators defending those who didn’t
attend because ‘the kid must have been weird or something’.
Little Glenn has autism. Not so severe that
he can’t attend normal school though. Basically, Glenn is a little different
like so many of us out there.
When I was fifteen/sixteen I had a
sleepover at my home. A number of girls came. All of us were the ‘odd-ones-out’
at school, some of us odder than others but hey, it was about having a fun
evening. And we did.
Being the odd one out can suck. But you’re
never the only one. The most interesting people in my life are those that are
the odd ones out. They are the people who dare to think differently because
they’ve realised that they are
different. And different is awesome 😉
Dare to be the odd one out.
